National Rifle Association endorses Paul Cook for Congress

by Paul Cook 4. May 2016 18:02

APPLE VALLEY - Colonel Paul Cook (ret.) announced that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has endorsed him in the race for California's Eighth Congressional District. Cook is the only candidate in this race to earn the NRA's endorsement, and this marks the third time Cook has garnered it (2012, 2014, and 2016). The NRA released the following statement on Cook:

On behalf of our five million members across the country, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is proud to endorse your candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Republican primary in California’s 8th Congressional District.

As a decorated veteran who spent 26 years in the U.S. Marine Corps fighting for our freedom and as a Congressman with a consistent and proven voting record on Second Amendment issues in the U.S. House of Representatives, you have earned an i 4A” rating from NRA-PVF for this primary election. An “ A” rating is reserved for a solidly pro-gun legislator who has supported NRA positions on key votes and issues.

Thank you for consistently opposing all attempts to ban lawfully-owned firearms, magazines, and ammunition, and standing strong against Hillary Clinton, President Obama and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun control agenda. We also appreciate your recent opposition to President Obama’s anti-gun Executive Actions and for signing a letter to the Obama administration opposing its recent attempt to ban commonly used ammunition for the most popular rifle in America, the AR-15.

Furthermore, we applaud your vote for legislation that would prohibit the Obama Administration from intimidating banks into refusing financial services to lawful ammunition and firearms dealers.

In addition, we commend your cosponsorship of H.R. 986, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2015. This bill would ensure that law-abiding Americans with valid concealed handgun permits would be able to carry their concealed firearms in any other state that does not prohibit concealed carry.

Finally, we are grateful for your vote for the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act, a bill that would positively impact sportsmen throughout California and the country by protecting traditional hunting ammunition, opening additional land access for hunting and fishing, and allowing firearms to be legally carried on land managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Congratulations on your “ A” rating and endorsement, and thank you for your steadfast support of the Second Amendment. Good luck with your campaign and we look forward to our continued relationship.

Cook stated, "I'm honored to earn the NRA's endorsement for the third consecutive time. They're a principled organization and a tremendous force for 2nd Amendment rights in our country. During my 26 years in the US Marine Corps, firearms were part of my life. I respect their power, I handle them responsibly, and I consider myself proficient. In Congress, with the help of the NRA, I'll continue to be a steadfast advocate for the rights of gun owners, and I'll never waiver in my defense of the 2nd Amendment."

Colonel Paul Cook (ret.) Earns San Bernardino County Republican Party Endorsement

by Paul Cook 7. May 2014 06:13

APPLE VALLEY, CA – The San Bernardino County Republican Party Central Committee announced its endorsement of Colonel Paul Cook (ret.) for California’s Eighth Congressional District (CD8). California’s CD8 covers large portions of San Bernardino County, including the High Desert, as well as all of Mono and Inyo counties.

Cook stated, “I’ve lived in San Bernardino County for over three decades now, and there’s no place I’d rather be. To have the endorsement of the GOP here tells me I’ve earned the trust of my neighbors.

“Our principles here – lower taxes, economic growth, and smaller government – will achieve greater prosperity for the most Americans. The Obama-era policy of tax more, spend more, depend more on government are proving once again to be complete failures. I want to continue fighting in Congress for workers and their families, and this San Bernardino County endorsement goes a long way toward helping me achieve that goal.”

Cook was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2012, winning a hotly contested race to represent CD8. He has distinguished himself by fighting to pass a balanced budget plan, strengthening America’s economy, and protecting Medicare for seniors. He also voted multiple times to defund, delay, and replace Obamacare. Cook serves on the Armed Services, Veterans, and Foreign Affairs committees in the House.

Cook served as an infantry officer and retired after 26 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his time in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
